ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A fire left one person dead in Alexander County on Sunday.
The fire happened on Frank Smith Mobile Home Park Drive in the Sugar Loaf area of Alexander County, which is north of Taylorsville.
An 80-year-old woman was found dead in the mobile home, according to the Alexander County Fire Marshal. The Sugar Loaf Fire Department, Taylorsville Fire Department, Vashti Fire Department, and several other agencies responded to the scene.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental and caused by an extension cord that was under an aluminum door.
The victim was identified Monday as 80-year-old Elinor Martin. Her grandson, Joshua Dykes, said she was always there to support her grandchildren and was a sweet woman. She's remembered fondly through a love of the "Days of Our Lives" soap opera.
