Pedestrian dies after vehicle hits them, CMPD says

Traffic in both directions was shut down Friday evening.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says a pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle Friday evening.

Officers said it happened along Central Avenue, near Eastway Drive, around 6 p.m. While the name of the victim wasn't shared at the time, CMPD said the victim was declared dead at the scene. Medic also responded.

The department shut down traffic in both directions along Central Avenue as the investigation began. As of publication, officers did not indicate if the driver involved would face charges.

CMPD has promised more information will be shared. WCNC Charlotte will update this article once new details are shared.
