Man hit, killed by car in north Charlotte, CMPD says

The 82-year-old man was standing next to his bike in the left lane of southbound traffic when the crash happened, CMPD said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An 82-year-old man has died after a crash in north Charlotte Saturday night, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report obtained by WCNC Charlotte.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene around 7:20 p.m. It happened near the intersection of North Graham Street and Cannon Avenue, which is also close to I-85.

When officers arrived, they found a person with serious injuries and a damaged bicycle. Police found a damaged Cadillac Escalade near the man, and the driver of that car was found at the scene. The driver, Lamont Mcinnis, was not injured in the crash.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic. His name has not been released, as his family has not been notified.

CMPD said the preliminary investigation indicates Mcinnis was driving south on North Graham Street at the time of the crash. The 82-year-old man was standing next to his bike in the left lane of southbound traffic, CMPD said.

Mcinnis was screened by a DWI Task Force officer and did not show signs of impairment and speed is not suspected to be a factor, however, CMPD learned he was operating the Cadillac Escalade with a revoked license. He was issued a citation for Driving While License Revoked.
