CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office fired a detention officer after he was arrested for a domestic violence charge.
Noel Richardson, 42, was arrested on Tuesday. Richardson is accused of physically assaulting his wife, according to Mecklenburg County court records.
Richardson was fired from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office after his arrest, according to a release. Richardson had worked in the position since December 2021.
“I am disappointed that I find myself in the position where I have to terminate an officer following their involvement in a domestic violence matter,” Garry McFadden, Mecklenburg County Sheriff, said. “At MCSO, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of conduct, and any behavior that violates the trust placed in us cannot be tolerated.”
Richardson is being held at the Mecklenburg County jail. He is scheduled for a first appearance hearing on Wednesday.
