Over 200 employees impacted by medical supply distributor's closure near Lincolnton

Medline began firing people on March 25, according to a WARN report filed on April 30.

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A medical supply company's decision to close a Lincoln County facility will leave around 200 people laid off.

Medline Industries filed a WARN report on Tuesday to notify the state that it is closing its facility in Lincoln County on East Powell Drive.

The report states that 220 employees may suffer a permanent employment loss because of the closure. Around 20 people will be offered a position with Medline at its facility in Mebane, North Carolina.

The company began laying off employees on March 25, according to the report.

Medline is a manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies. The company is based in Illinois and has over 50 sites across the country. Medline closed its facility in Salisbury in 2022.

In response to a request for comment, Medline sent the following response:

“Medline made the difficult decision to cease the operations of its distribution center in Lincolnton, N.C. as the company consolidates operations at its new state-of-the-art facility in Mebane, N.C., which will allow the company to better serve the needs of its healthcare customers. The transition will be completed by this summer. All Lincolnton team members are eligible to apply for other open positions at Medline. Those team members who do not place in another Medline role will receive a severance package and outplacement services to assist in their transition.

This decision is in no way reflective of Medline’s appreciation for the local team’s quality of work, or how much the company has enjoyed being a part of the Lincolnton community.”
