WILMINGTON, N.C. — Former President Donald Trump spoke at a campaign rally at Wilmington's Aero Center on Saturday afternoon.
Surrounded by an enclosure of bulletproof glass, Trump spoke on many topics of interest in the leadup to the November general election, ranging from the economy to immigration.
"If we win (North Carolina), I think it's going to be over fast," Trump said.
At one point, N.C. Senator Ted Budd and Representative Dan Bishop joined Trump and his daughter, Lara Trump. He also shouted out Robeson County commissioner John Cummings.
Trump's grandkids Carolina and Luke — children Eric and Lara Trump — also took the stage in support of their grandfather. Much to the excitement of the crowd, Trump lifted Luke up to the microphone, and the little boy let out a "Vote for Grandpa."
Following a recent trend, Trump vowed to end taxes on tips, overtime pay and social security payments.
Trump did not comment on the CNN report on Mark Robinson, which came out Thursday. In the report, CNN claims it linked Robinson to an online persona that posted numerous comments that were either racist or sexual in nature on a pornography site message board several years ago.
Trump’s last official rally in North Carolina before Saturday's event was when he visited Asheboro in August.
The rally comes days after CNN released a report about Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson’s alleged posts on a pornography website’s message board. Robinson is not expected to speak or be present at Saturday’s rally.
Last week, Trump faced an assassination attempt at his golf club in Florida. Ryan Routh, the suspect in Trump’s assassination attempt, has ties to the Greensboro area.
Both Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump have visited North Carolina over the past month. Harris held two rallies in Charlotte and Greensboro earlier this month. Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance is expected to speak to voters in Charlotte on Monday.
Harris appeared in Georgia and Wisconsin on Friday for campaign events, according to the Associated Press.
