RICHMOND COUNTY, N.C. — A man was arrested after he nearly struck a patrol car while impaired and led deputies on a chase, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday.
It happened on Saturday, May 25 around 1:50 a.m. in Rockingham. The deputy was responding to a call for service when Samuel Huerta, 21, ran a stop sign and almost crashed into the deputy's car.
Huerta drove off from the scene and the deputy followed. After a short pursuit, Huerta stopped at a business on Broad Avenue.
Deputies smelled a strong odor of alcohol from Huerta after they approached him.
Huerta was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and felony flee to elude arrest. He was held in Richmond County Jail with a $10,500 bond.
