eTree makes uptown debut

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It is art to highlight the beauty of sustainability. Duke Energy's eTree provides shade under seven solar panels, provides USB ports to charge six smart phones-- all at the same time-- and provides free public WiFi for visitors to enjoy. At night, LED lights illuminate the dark. It's all part of Duke's efforts to give back to their customers.

"The eTree is not only artistic, but it provides an opportunity for us to test the value for our customers and provide a benefit to them as we expand our outdoor lighting program," said Meghan Miles, Duke Energy spokesperson. "It's in the perfect location, located next to Bank of America Stadium. Fans can charge their cellphones, or just take a seat on the bench to check it out and learn more about it."

The eTree comes with an interactive touch screen for users to have fun with. Duke Energy plans on expanding eTrees around the Carolinas if the art project is a success in uptown.

"We are excited to offer this new technology to our customers here in Charlotte first. We expect the public to embrace the technology!" Miles added.
