CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A senior living facility on the 3700 block of Prosperity Church Road was partially evacuated on Saturday, prompting a large presence of first responders and police.
A spokesperson for the Charlotte Fire Department told WCNC Charlotte that CFD was dispatched just before 10 a.m. for a strong odor on the fourth floor of the apartment building.
The third and fourth floors of the building were evacuated, according to CFD, and five patients were evaluated.
None of the people who were evaluated were transported with injuries.
A hazmat team determined the stench was caused by a resident improperly mixing cleaning chemicals.
The department said everyone is safely back in the their apartments.
Residents of the Prosperity Creek Senior Apartments told WCNC they were asked to leave their apartments around 10:30 a.m., but were not initially told why.
One resident of the apartments told WCNC's crew at the scene that it was the largest emergency response he'd ever seen at this location.
