Evacuation orders updated for parts of Mecklenburg County after flooding

There were three areas in the Charlotte area with active evacuation orders, Saturday afternoon.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — There were three areas with active evacuation orders in the Charlotte area on Saturday afternoon, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Office of Emergency Management.

On Sunday, the voluntary evacuation orders for the areas of Allison Ferry Road and the north side of Mountain Island Lake have been lifted. However, officials urge people there to stay alert to flooding a debris.

Residents near Riverside Drive, Lake Drive and Riverhaven Drive should consult with emergency service personnel in the area to determine when it is safe to return to their specific home.

Flood waters continued to rise throughout the night into Sunday but water levels are now beginning to recede along Mountain Island Lake.

Everyone around the shorelines of Lake Norman, Mountain Island Lake, the Catawba River and Lake Wylie should be aware of water conditions, which could change quickly throughout the day.

On Saturday, areas under a mandatory evacuation order included:  Riverside Drive, Lake Drive, Riverhaven Drive and parts of Beagle Club Road & Hart Road near Mountain Island Lake.

A voluntary evacuation order was originally issued on Saturday for areas near Allison Ferry Road near Mountain Island Lake, Arthur Auten Drive, Drake Cove Road, Neck Rd, Ballypat Lane, Johnson David Road and Latta Springs.
