CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Hundreds of people were without power in Cabarrus County after a concrete truck took down multiple utility poles on Saturday and caused NC-49 to shut down in both directions.
Power has been restored for most of the approximately 500 homes and businesses that went dark after the crash in Harrisburg, North Carolina.
Highway NC-49 was still closed Sunday morning between Patricia Ave and Morehead Road. The road is now open with no obstructions, according to DriveNC.
“I don’t even know what to say. I’ve never seen anything like that honestly,” said Gavin Jones, a Cabarrus County resident, on Saturday.
Businesses in the area were effected as well.
“For someone like me, it’s kind of hard because it’s difficult to get up and down the street and make my deliveries, honestly," Jones said.
Crews on the ground told WCNC Charlotte this all started when a concrete truck got caught on a line, pulling it down along with multiple other poles.
"Not only is it difficult to get from neighborhood to neighborhood, but it’s also congested some of the back streets you would normally take to bypass that type of stuff,” Jones added.
