'Able to exhale' | A close family friend reflects on arrests made in hit-and-run that killed NC A&T student

The two men accused of hitting and killing Xiomara Moore on April 13th were extradited back to Greensboro today.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Two arrests have been made in connection with the hit-and-run death of NC A&T student, Xiomara Moore, Greensboro police say.

WFMY News 2 spoke to Kimberly Pendleton, a close family friend who told us the news of the arrests bring her closure.

"We have been able to exhale.. just finally some type of closure to the madness," Pendleton recalled.

Greensboro Police are charging two men they believe are involved in the crash. Police say they found the men and arrested them in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on June 17th.

Driver, Darion Tyric Valentine, 22, faces multiple charges including felony hit-and-run death. Passenger Dasyne' Akiese Hairston, 23, also faces numerous charges including felony hit-and-run death as passenger.

Friday afternoon, the two suspects were extradited to Greensboro.

As the justice process continues, Pendleton said it may be tough to revisit what allegedly happened. She hopes two suspects can make a positive change in their lives.

"We have to go through the process and I know that a lot of it is going to bring up feelings and things. But her family is strong in their faith as well," she said, "It's just a hard situation. You have Xiomara who had a great outlook and she was involved in her faith. We know where she is and we find peace and comfort in that."

Moore was killed on N. Elm Street and E. Friendly Avenue on Saturday, April 13.

She aspired to be a nurse and was a junior enrolled in the Health Science Management program in the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at NC A&T.
