ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A house fire east of Salisbury left a person and a dog dead on Sunday, according to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said firefighters were called to a home on Mahaley Road near Wildwood Drive in Rowan County east of Salisbury around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday. The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, according to the sheriff's office.
A person and a dog were found dead in the home. The person has not been identified at this time.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. Rowan County Sheriff's Office detectives, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the fire.
