Firefighters awoke to alarms and smoke. It was their fire truck

The fire started in the cab of a reserve ladder truck. The cause is still under investigation.

CONCORD, N.C. — A fire truck was badly damaged when it caught on fire at a fire station in Concord early Thursday morning, officials said.

Firefighters at Station 8 were awakened by alarms shortly after 4 a.m. Crews quickly determined a ladder truck inside the building was on fire. The bay area was filled with smoke, but firefighters were able to get their gear out of the truck and removed it from inside the station.

Additional units were called to the fire station and a team of 24 firefighters got the flames were under control in about 10 minutes. In total, four engines, two battalion chiefs and a safety officer responded to the fire.

The fire is believed to have started inside the cab of the truck, but the cause hasn't been determined at this time. No one was hurt during the incident, according to Concord fire officials.
