16-year-old charged in fatal Huntersville crash that killed one and left three others seriously injured

The collision took place in the 10300 block of McCoy Road in Huntersville.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Five people were rushed to CMC for serious medical care after a head-on collision destroyed two vehicles in Huntersville. According to Huntersville Fire, two dogs died in the accident.

According to Huntersville police, officers responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision around 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 30.

The collision took place in the 10000 block of McCoy Road in Huntersville. Several victims were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, officials say.

On Thursday, deputies arrested and charged 16-year-old Jonathan Bales in connection to the crash. 

Bales was charged with involuntary manslaughter and two counts of AWDW serious injury. 

Officers located three individuals inside a 2016 Jeep Patriot. According to officials the driver, identified as 56-year-old Lisa May Overfield, was pronounced deceased at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte. 

The front seat passenger in the Jeep, 60-year-old Michael Croxton, had life-threatening injuries and was transported to CMC by Medic. The third passenger was transported to Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte with serious injuries.

Officials additionally located two individuals inside a 2017 Honda Accord. The driver and front seat passenger were transported to CMC by Medic with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of all the injured individuals are being withheld as the investigation is ongoing.
