Plane returns to Charlotte airport after inflight emergency

American Airlines flight 2007 bound for Pensacola returned to Charlotte Douglas International Airport because of an issue.

An American Airlines flight carrying passengers from Charlotte to Pensacola returned to Charlotte Douglas International Airport because of an inflight emergency Thursday.

The flight was identified as American Airlines 2007, which was scheduled to depart Charlotte at 9:22 a.m. Thursday.

Shortly after takeoff, the plane returned to Charlotte because of an issue onboard. Around 10:30 a.m., the flight landed safely back at the Charlotte airport.

There was no indication of any immediate injuries. WCNC Charlotte has reached out to American Airlines to seek additional information.

Passengers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport have been experiencing delays Thursday because of severe weather that impacted flights starting on Wednesday. By 10 a.m. on Thursday, 42 flights bound for Charlotte had been canceled. On Wednesday, Charlotte topped the list of airports with cancelations, according to flight tracking website Flight Aware. In total Wednesday, the airport saw the cancelation of 122 outbound flights and the cancelation of 83 inbound flights.
