Salisbury PD offering free steering wheel locks to Kia, Hyundai owners

The department is distributing free steering wheel locks to curb auto thefts.

SALISBURY, N.C. — Kia and Hyundai owners who live in Salisbury may qualify to receive a free steering wheel lock from the Salisbury Police Department

The department is giving away the free wheel locks on a first-come, first-served basis for residents of Salisbury who own 2010 and newer Hyundai and Kia vehicles.

The free locks are a way of curbing auto thefts, especially for these makes of cars. 

“Auto theft is a serious issue affecting communities nationwide, and Salisbury is not exempt,” Salisbury Police Chief PJ Smith said in a statement. “The Salisbury Police Department aims to give residents an additional layer of security to protect their vehicles from theft by providing wheel locks.”

Applicants have to show proof of car ownership and residency. Residents can apply for a free lock at the Salisbury Police Department on East Liberty Street, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
