CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Family and friends of Dan Wade, one of the beloved co-founders of Wooden Robot, came together to pay their respects on Monday.
Wade died last week after he fell while at the Wooden Robot brewery on South Tryon Street in Charlotte's South End neighborhood, one of two Wooden Robot locations.
A memorial continues to grow in front of the South End brewery, with flowers, plants and cards left by members of the community.
A private service for family and close friends took place at 3 p.m. Monday at Temple Beth El. The service was ivestreamed for those who wished to watch it online. Wooden Robot plans to have a public vigil but is waiting to organize it until after staff has had more time to heal.
According to his obituary, the family is asking in lieu of flowers to contribute to a GoFundMe account which has raised more than $190,000 as of Monday afternoon.
Both the South End and NoDa Wooden Robot locations are closed until further notice.
