GASTONIA, N.C. — Fire crews have successfully contained a 2-alarm fire that broke out at an abandoned hotel in Gastonia on Monday night.
The fire happened just off Cox Road near I-85 at an abandoned Value Lodge hotel behind the IHOP.
Firefighters said that they received a call about a dumpster fire around 8 p.m., but it quickly escalated into a 2-alarm fire. Almost a dozen fire units were called in to assist.
Currently, officials don't believe that anyone was injured in the fire.
The Gastonia Fire Chief told WCNC Charlotte that he doesn't believe that the fire was set maliciously, but may have started from someone trying to get warm. The Fire Chief also said that there was another fire at this same location in August of 2022.
The abandoned structure is supposed to be demolished.
