One person, later identified as 22-year-old Demario McCoy, died in the crash, according to police.

GASTONIA, N.C. — A deadly crash in Gastonia shut down part of a street Friday night.

The Gastonia Police Department said it happened around 7:45 p.m. near Webb Street and Yates Street, near West Garrison Boulevard.

One person, later identified as 22-year-old Demario McCoy, died in the crash, according to police. McCoy was in the backseat at the time of the crash.

The driver, along with another passenger, was also injured, police said.

Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling south on Webb Street, veered left of the roadway out of a curve and struck a cinder block building. Speed was a factor in the crash, according to police.

No charges have been filed yet in this case.
