GASTONIA, N.C. — A deadly crash shut down a stretch of road in Gastonia Thursday afternoon.
Gastonia Police said it happened around 12:30 p.m. along Union Road. The crash prompted a span of the roadway to be closed for a time, stretching from Niblick Drive to East Hudson Boulevard.
Police later confirmed two cars were involved. One car, driven by 58-year-old James Auten of Forest City, crossed the center line and struck the other car. Auten died, according to officers.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
