Burke County officer who crashed into house will retire, police chief says

The 77-year-old officer meant to hit the brakes but instead pressed the accelerator and slammed into the home, police said.

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A Burke County police officer is officially retiring after he was placed on administrative leave for crashing into a house last month, officials said.

The Glen Alpine Police Department confirmed that 77-year-old Capt. William Boliek was placed on administrative leave in connection with crashing into a house on Pea Ridge Street in May. Chief Rodney Cox said Boliek meant to hit his brakes but pressed the accelerator instead. No citations were issued in connection with the crash.
