Man dies in moped crash, Hickory police say

The crash happened Tuesday night.

HICKORY, N.C. — A man is dead after crashing his moped into another car in Hickory on Tuesday night.

According to the Hickory Police Department, on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on NC Hwy 127 near 1110 South Center Street.

Billy Starnes, a 55-year-old Hickory resident, was attempting to cross the highway on his moped when he collided with a Tesla that was traveling south on Hwy 127.

Catawba County EMS responded and pronounced Starnes dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Tesla is not expected to face any charges in this case.
