CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Hornets Owner Michael Jordan was included in President Barack Obama’s list of recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom Wednesday.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals “who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” according to a press release from The White House. The awards will be presented to Jordan and 20 other recipients at the White House on November 22th.

Jordan is considered by many as one of the greatest athletes of all time. He played 15 seasons in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards; he is currently a principal owner and chairman of the Charlotte Hornets. Throughout his career, he won six championships, five Most Valuable Player awards, and appeared in 14 All-Star games, according to the press release.

Among others joining Jordan in receiving the award are fellow-NBA great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, comedian and show host Ellen Degeneres, Bill and Melinda Gates and actor Robert De Niro. The White House has the full list of recipients here.
