CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Fifteen years after IKEA planted roots in Charlotte with its University area store, a new format of the store is set to open in south Charlotte.
This summer, IKEA will be opening a "Plan & order point with Pick-up" store in the Promenade on Providence shopping center. The store will be in a 15,000 square feet space on Providence Road.
It won't be the full store many people might think of, though. Instead, it is aimed at helping customers through interior design planning. Customers can then order items for delivery.
Notably, this location will not have the classic IKEA food like the fan-favorite meatballs -- though the larger Charlotte store does.
IKEA is opening several stores like this in the near future -- this is the fifth store of this format that IKEA has announced this year, and more are expected.
“The goal is simple: bring the IKEA experience closer to our customers," Javier Quiñones, CEO and chief sustainability officer for IKEA U.S., said in a news release. "We’re excited to introduce the IKEA South Charlotte Plan & order point with Pick-up, making our home furnishing products and solutions more convenient, accessible and, above all, affordable."
The exact opening date has not been confirmed.
