UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Federal investigators are looking into several discrimination cases at Union County Public Schools, including reports of sexual and racial harassment.
The Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights opened 10 investigations into discrimination at Union County Public Schools on April 2, according to records. There are two investigations each for complaints of sexual harassment, racial harassment, retaliation, discipline, and denial of benefits.
Most of these fall under the Title VI category. Only the sexual harassment investigations are Title IX complaints. These complaints are not exclusive to students and can involve employees, parents, and job applicants.
The information on these investigations is not open to the public. Pending cases are typically kept sealed until the investigation is complete.
Requests for comment on these investigations have not been returned by the Department of Education or Union County Public Schools.
