CHARLOTTE, N.C. — First Lady Jill Biden visited the Queen City this week to highlight the Biden Administration's work to help cancer patients.
She arrived in Charlotte on Friday, making her way to Atrium Health Levine Cancer. Biden discussed the president's efforts to expand access to patient navigation services for people facing cancer and address the financial burden of cancer care.
Charlotte was Biden's first of two visits that day. She also flew into Nashville, Tennessee for a political event in the town of Franklin, about 22 miles south.
The Biden Administration's Cancer Moonshot initiative aims to transform cancer care by preventing more than 4 million cancer deaths by the year 2047 and improving the experience of those facing a cancer diagnosis. The Cancer Moonshot's key goals include expanding access to screenings, preventing toxic and environmental exposures; preventing more cancers, driving innovation to deliver progress to patients, and providing support that centers on patients and caregivers.
The initiative relies on action from the federal government, scientific community, medical and public health community; private sector, and citizens touched by cancer, which includes patients, survivors, caregivers, families, and those who have lost someone to cancer.
