Albemarle Corporation, which is based in Charlotte, announced the layoffs when reporting its third quarter results for 2024.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The world's largest lithium miner is set to lay off hundreds of employees.

Albemarle Corporation, which is based in Charlotte, announced when reporting its third quarter results for 2024 that it would cut 6% to 7% of its global workforce, which includes Charlotte and Kings Mountain.

It's not clear how much that layoff impacts employees in the Charlotte area, but Albemarle Corporation said the reduction would represent roughly 15% of the non-manufacturing workforce at the company.
