Knife found inside local school

A knife found inside a local school has parents wondering how it got there and what kind of danger their kids were in.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A knife found inside a local school has parents wondering how it got there and what kind of danger their kids were in.

A CMPD report says it happened at Southwest Middle School in Steele Creek on Tuesday. Just before 3pm the report says that the "folding knife" was located on a person and taken away.

CMPD didn't specify whether or not a student had brought the knife into school, but when NBC Charlotte asked CMS for information on the incident, they said, "anytime there is a situation where a student needs to be disciplined, it is according to student code of conduct."

No one was injured, but Jaye Ross who has a 6th-grade son in attendance, says she's shocked that she didn't hear about this from the school and had to hear it from us instead.

"Me having a young student there, the fact that someone would bring a knife, these days these kids are not joking around," Ross said.

An Assistant Principal at Southwest Middle School was the reporting person on that CMPD report.
