New details: Two people hurt in Lake Wateree boat crash, man and woman hospitalized

Authorities said a male and a female passenger were hurt when the boat crashed. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is investigating the crash.

RIDGEWAY, S.C. — Authorities say two people were hurt in an overnight boat crash on Lake Wateree.

The Kershaw County Fire Service said neighboring Fairfield County Fire requested their Marine units around 2 a.m. to respond to a boat crash versus a dock around 2 a.m. Authorities said the crash happened in the 300 block of Bird Island Road.

Kershaw County officials confirmed that Fairfield County handled the injuries involved in the crash while Kershaw County crews patrolled the area. 

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, which is handling the investigation, said a man and woman on the boat were injured when it crashed in the June Creek area in Fairfield County. 

Both were hospitalized, with the man being airlifted from the scene and the woman taken by emergency medical services personnel. Their conditions weren't available at the time.
