CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teenager in the Charlotte area is learning through the power of LEGO to overcome his social anxiety one brick at a time.
There are mountains of LEGO bricks inside the Donaher household that 15-year-old Lochlainn Donaher has for his organization "Imaginability Lego League - Every Brick Matters."
“It's like a club for people who are people who like want to develop social skills like interacting with others like you using Legos,” Lochlainn said.
The club started accepting LEGO bricks from the community in hopes of distributing them to children who would like to join the club.
Lochlainn has a big interest in building LEGO sets as they’ve helped him learn to overcome some fear in dealing with social anxiety.
“It's been a way for me to express my creative side, and to make things I could, like, only imagine in my head and make them a reality, and it's something that I can socialize with other people about," Lochlainn said.
Vanessa Donaher, Lochlainn's mother, is amazed at seeing the growth that every block has made for her son.
“He found Legos were a way to really make friends and connect," Vanessa Donaher said. "He developed a voice, he developed his passion. He wants to study architecture. And so like I was amazed at how this thing grew.”
Their goal is to help spread the love and its impact to more children and their families.
“I'm very happy I get to create something that's bigger than myself and be able to spread my love for LEGO to other people,” Lochlainn said.
