CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Did you know that every three minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer and that every 10 minutes someone dies of a blood cancer? These types of cancers can affect bone marrow, blood cells and lymph nodes, and this sickness doesn't discriminate -- people young and old and from all walks of life can be affected.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients, not someday but today.
Right now, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Charlotte is holding a fundraiser with proceeds going towards groundbreaking research, patient support and advocacy.
This year, WCNC Charlotte's Ashley Stroehlein was nominated as one of LLS’s Visionaries of the Year candidates; it's a fundraiser that helps fund therapies that save lives every day. Donations for the 10-week fundraiser conclude on June 1 at 4 p.m. and can be made online.
A number of sports figures in our community also donated silent auction items to help raise funds including the Panthers contributing a signed Luke Kuechly helmet, Harold Varner III golf tournament worn and autographed Jordan shoes, and a Dale Jr. signed replica Sun Drop helmet. You can bid on these items until June 3 here.
Contact Ashley Stroehlein at astro@wcnc.com and follow her on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
