Lincoln County deputy fired after disorderly conduct arrest

The deputy was located a short distance from the scene and officers noted that he was "grossly intoxicated," according to a police report.

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. -- The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was relieved of his duties after he was arrested in South Carolina for public disorderly conduct.

According to a police report from the Columbia Police Department, police responded to a call of a possible fight in the 900 block of Senate Street in Columbia, S.C., a little before 2 a.m. Friday.

Upon arrival, witnesses told officers the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Alexander Sherwood, fled from the scene. Sherwood was located a short distance from the scene and officers noted that he was "grossly intoxicated," according to CPD's police report.

Police said they confiscated a pocket knife that was in Sherwood's possession.

Sherwood was a deputy with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office for about eight months.
