Skeletal remains found in Lincoln County, officials say

A man found the remains in a wooded area near Lee Lawing Road.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office are investigating after skeletal remains were found in the woods off Lee Lawing Road in Lincolnton.

Around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, deputies received a call from a Dollar General employee after a customer told the employee that he believed that he found a human skull while walking in the woods near the store.

While conducting a search, detectives at the scene located more skeletal remains nearby.

The skeletal remains will now be sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office for identification and to determine the cause of death.
