LINCOLNTON, N.C. — The Lincolnton Police Department is asking for help finding a driver they say hit someone else Tuesday morning before leaving the scene.
Officers responded to East Main Street near South Poplar Street at 7:20 a.m. for a call claiming a car hit a person riding a tricycle. The victim was able to talk to police and said he did not know the suspect, but believed the suspect may be from out of town and had been seen near North Poplar Street and Lincolnton High School before.
Police reviewed and released surveillance photos of the suspect car, which appears to be a late 1990s or early 2000s sedan. It has a two-tone pattern, with white paint on the tap half of the body and camouflage on the bottom. The car also has a green-colored racing stripe on the hood. A bicycle was also mounted on the rear, obscuring the license plate.
Officers said the suspect vehicle was seen leaving the scene at a high rate of speed, traveling west on Sycamore Street. The driver then continued west toward North Grove Street.
Anyone with information that could help in the case is asked to call the department at 704-736-8900 to speak with the officer in charge of the investigation. Anonymous tips can be phoned in to Crime Stoppers of Lincolnton at 704-736-8909.
