Missing Lincolnton woman found dead at Virginia rest stop, deputies say

A thorough investigation into how she died is now underway.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says a woman last spotted at the camper she was living in Monday morning was tragically found dead in Virginia on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old woman was reported missing by her mother when she failed to come home and was last seen at 7:25 a.m. that day along Imperial Lane near Gilbert Road, where she lived with her boyfriend.

Deputies used resources available through her phone carrier, discovering her last known location was near I-77 in Virginia, just past the state line with North Carolina. The Virginia State Police were contacted and moved to help find her.

She was found dead in her car at a rest area in Virginia. The investigation into how she died is ongoing, and the sheriff's office has promised to collaborate with Virginia State Police until all aspects are thoroughly examined.
