Behind every small business is a big dreamer.
Those dreams also come with lots of hard work over at Binki Café, a place where they drown your troubles in bubbles.
"We sell a lot of Boba drinks and food as well," AJ Harris with Binki Café said.
After being in business for more than five years, Binki leaders are looking at ways to boost foot traffic.
"For small businesses, it's very hard to get our brand out to other people," said Harris.
It’s just one of many barriers University City Partners is working to tackle through its Small Business Initiative program.
The nonprofit has been going door to door actively engaging with 4,700 small businesses to better meet their needs.
"We believe a lot of them are from underserved markets but also a lot of them are small mom-and-pop businesses that have been around for a long time," Keith Stanley with University City Partners said. "We want to reach out and figure out how to support them."
Stanley said from help with branding services to marketing consultations, their team is hoping to help each business thrive.
"It's our small businesses that are the windows to our community we want to know if they are healthy, if they are not healthy we have an issue,' said Stanley.
Business leaders at Binki said this is a community that mirrors love if you support it, it supports you back.
"You guys are essentially just like us and that’s great because we connect with you guys on a personal level," said Harris.
University City Partners said they already have the money in hand.
They said once they finish up surveying businesses, they’re going to get the ball rolling and get the money where it’s needed.
