LOWELL, N.C. — Downed trees and power outages were some of the results for some throughout Gaston County after storms moved through the area on Saturday.
Matt Spangler lives on McAdenville Road in Lowell and was home with his family when the heavy rain hit his area.
“This has been the worst that's affected us personally,” Spangler said. “I was watching a movie. And then I heard a loud, like a tree coming down. And then all of a sudden the climax of the movie, we lost power. And I looked outside and I saw the power line hanging down in front of the front of the house right here.”
The downed tree closed McAdenville Road in front of his home.
“It's a little annoying to deal with," Spangler said. "We haven't left the house yet. So we'll probably wait until things get a little bit cleared up over there."
Homes in the neighborhood were left with no power for close to 12 hours.
Power has been restored and Spangler hopes Mother Nature gives more grace the next time storms move over the area.
“As soon as we get a chance we'll probably go stock up on water and some of the essentials like that," Spangler said. "Make sure we got enough batteries for our flashlights and lanterns and stuff and let's pray for the best.”
