Man arrested after bringing shotgun to bar, Boone police say

The incident happened outside of the Boone Saloon on West King Street.

Police arrested a man who they say brought a shotgun and a tactical vest to a bar after he was asked to leave.

Peter Gabaree, 59, was arrested outside of the Boone Saloon on West King Street in Boone, police said on Tuesday. Officers were called to the area around 12:32 a.m. after Gabaree was seen with a firearm outside of the bar.

Boone police say Gabaree was asked to leave the bar and then grabbed a tactical vest, a shotgun, a handgun, and ammunition before heading back to the bar. Officers arrived at the scene and were able to arrest him. He was charged with going armed to the terror of the public and resisting officers.

Gabaree was noticeably bleeding and injured in the mugshot provided by police. The Boone Police Department said that Gabaree suffered a cut to his face as officers brought him to the ground. They say he was forced to the ground because he resisted arrest. WCNC Charlotte has chosen not to use Gabaree's mugshot because he is not facing a violent charge, does not appear to pose a threat to the public, and is not wanted.

Police later obtained a warrant charging him with two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, which is a felony. Police noted the additional charges are due to felony convictions in Connecticut in 1992.

He was given a $50,000 secured bond pending a Dec. 20 court appearance.
