Man shot, killed by Catawba County officers while driving toward them

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office said Pierre Ramseur was wanted for several felony and misdemeanor charges. He was also out on bond for a murder charge.

CONOVER, N.C. — A man was shot and killed while attempting to crash into officers with a Catawba County tactics team, the Catawba County Sheriff's Office said on Monday.

Officers attempted to arrest Pierre Ramseur around 6 p.m. on Monday in the Elite Comfort Solutions parking lot on Farrington Street SW in Conover. Ramseur was wanted for second-degree kidnapping, robbery, larceny, communicating threats, and injury to personal property, according to the sheriff's office. He was also out on bond for a murder charge.

Ramseur refused to exit his car and crashed into multiple law enforcement units at the scene. He drove toward law enforcement officers after this, at which point he was shot by members of Catawba County’s Special Tactics and Response Team. Ramseur died in the shooting.

Ramseur was charged with murder for a 2008 homicide in Long View, N.C. He and three others were charged for the deadly shooting of Jeter "Eddie" Greene Jr., 26, in October 2008. They were arrested and charged in September 2023. 

The officers involved have not been named. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into this incident.
