CHESTER, S.C. — A manhunt is underway in Chester County after a deadly shooting early Saturday, police said.
Chester Police responded to a shooting near Spring Street and White Street around 1 a.m. on Oct. 19. When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old man who had been shot multiple times. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead around 4 a.m.
"We understand that incidents like this can raise concerns within our community," City Administrator Malik Whitaker said in a press release. "We want to assure our residents that the safety of our citizens is our top priority."
Chester Police said it is actively investigating the shooting. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting with the case. So far, no arrests have been made and Chester authorities haven't identified the man who was killed.
Neighbors said they're concerned that this could happen in their town.
"I'm always shocked," one person told WCNC Charlotte.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the victim's family and friends during this difficult time," Whitaker said. "Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate this situation together."
