CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said detectives are investigating a homicide that happened early Sunday morning on South Boulevard.
CMPD said officers in the Westover Division responded to an "assault with a deadly weapon" call for service just after 1 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, which was outside a bowling alley on South Boulevard's 4500 block, they found a man who had been seriously injured from gunshot wounds.
The man, identified as 27-year-old Anthony Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family has been notified.
CMPD said the homicide unit is actively investigating the case. As additional information develops, CMPD said, it will be released by the department's public affairs office.
The department is asking anyone with information about this incident to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a detective.
Detective Moore is the lead detective assigned to this case.
