LANCASTER, S.C. — A 17-year-old is charged with murder in connection with the deadly shooting of an 18-year-old in Lancaster County last week, deputies said.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting on Zion Road around 11 p.m. on Friday, March 22. When deputies arrived, they found 18-year-old Stephen Carter dead across the road from his house.
Family members were giving Carter first aid when he was found. They told deputies they heard gunshots and when they went outside, they found Carter after he was shot.
On Monday, Lancaster County deputies announced an arrest in the case. Ny'Jeri Izay Patteron, 17, was charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Patterson was arrested at his home in Lancaster Sunday night. He is being charged as an adult in the case.
Investigators do not think this is a random incident. They encourage anyone with any information about this shooting to reach out immediately.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with this young man’s family, and I hope we will have answers for them about who did this and why very soon,” Sheriff Barry Faile said.
