YORK, S.C. — A massive SWAT response happened in York on Green Street just off of Congress Street on Wednesday night.
We’re told York Police were tipped off to a possible situation of armed suspects holed up inside a home on Green Street.
Neighbors in the area told NBC Charlotte an assault in the street initiated the response.
The York County Sheriff’s Office used a robot to search for potential suspects, but we’re told no one was found inside the home.
The response alone was quite a scene: Multiple SWAT trucks, dozens of police cars, and a neighborhood full of people trying to find out exactly what was going on.
One neighbor said he witnessed an assault in the street, specifically some men beating up another man. He said one of the assailants had a handgun.
When York Police arrived on the scene, someone gave law enforcement the impression the suspects were holed up inside the house, and they weren’t coming out.
That’s when the sheriff’s office was called for backup with their SWAT trucks. Again, they used a robot to determine no one was inside the home, and minutes later, the entire scene was cleared out.
Police later told NBC Charlotte two men beat another man unconscious. The victim was in serious but stable condition. The suspects remained on the run.
