CHARLOTTE, N.C. — At Monday's board of commissioners meeting, residents in Matthews addressed town leaders over short-term rentals.
Many said they were unhappy with short-term rentals in their neighborhoods, stating that if they wanted to live next to a hotel, they would have.
During Monday's meeting, some on the board said they were confused over what is and is not allowed, in terms of short-term rentals. Commissioner Renee Garner said the properties aren't regulated by the Town.
Patricia Robinson is one of the residents who is unhappy with short-term rental issues in Matthews. While the rapidly growing Town of Matthews is changing Robinson, and other residents, wish it wouldn't.

Robinson has lived in the same house since the 1970s. Although she loves the area, there's a rotating door of neighbors, which she's not thrilled with.
"The people that bought that house have an Airbnb and it’s been a nightmare," Robinson said.
She said every other day people move in and out and she and her daughter, who lives nearby, are concerned with who is renting and staying.
Robinson went door to door and worked to keep things how they've been in the neighborhood.
"I made a petition and presented to the Town of Matthews on Monday night the 27," Robinson said.
Over 100 people signed the petition. Robinson told the commissioners what she and her family have been dealing with and was confused as to why this could happen in a single-family zoned area.
“They had a party and there were cars everywhere," Robinson said. "It can get loud and the streets can get cluttered."
WCNC Charlotte reached out to Airbnb asking for rules and regulations for a property but did not hear back.
