CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Set up was underway for the Meck Mile on Friday. It's the first annual event in Charlotte and will happen at the American Legion Memorial Stadium on 7th Street near Elizabeth.
Organizers said hundreds of runners have signed up and it's only a one-mile race with dozens of heats.
Miller Yoho with Charlotte Sports Network said he's excited for a race first of its kind in the Queen City.
“We have people who could finish in under four minutes or an hour, but it’s the same finish line and everyone will be celebrating the exact same way," Yoho told WCNC Charlotte.
There are runners of all ages signed up, from one year old to 87 years old.
WCNC Charlotte talked to one woman, Elizabeth Hindal, who is an example of how anyone can do it.
Tucked away where no one can see, you'll find Hindal's stash of running medals.
“I do a lot of running," Hindal said. “I’m not that fast.”
Hindal is humble about her running success, despite participating in over 40 marathon-length runs and hundreds of races. She is signed up for the Meck Mile as well.
At 64 years old, Hindal is a great reminder that anyone can do it.
