CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is dead and two others face serious injuries after an accident in east Charlotte early Saturday morning, Medic said.
Medic said it responded to the scene at Albemarle Road and Central Avenue around 2 a.m. Saturday.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department later said they responded to a call about a white 2017 Dodge Challenger overturned in a parking lot on Albemarle Road.
Officers said the driver, 25-year-old Anthonie Dashawn Fennell, and the right front seat passenger, 22-year-old Latrice Beth Harris, were taken by Medic to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries.
The back seat passenger, 24-year-old Noah James McClaskey, was pronounced dead on scene by Medic, according to police.
Fennel was driving through the intersection of Albemarle Road and Central Avenue and off the roadway, according to police. The car entered the parking lot and hit four metal poles before going airborne and overturning, police said. It struck a total of five parked cars in the parking lot of the used car lot at the scene, officers said.
Officers said Fennell showed signs of impairment and it was determined that impairment and reckless driving were the cause of the crash.
Police obtained warrants felony by motor vehicle and felony serious injury by vehicle for Fennell's arrest. Citations were also issued for driving while impaired, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane, police said.
Fennell is currently hospitalized and will be arrested once he is released, police said. An attempt will be made to interview him upon his release from the hospital as well.
This incident remains under investigation.
