CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thanksgiving serves as a time for people across the country to come together and celebrate the holiday, but there are still essential workers such as first responders clocking in to keep our community safe.

Medic workers punched their ticket to work on Thanksgiving and stayed staffed and ready to take action in case of any emergency.

"Emergencies don't end. They don't stop," R.J. Goodman, the assistant operations supervisor with Medic, said.

That's why medic maintains an all-hands-on-deck approach during the holiday.

“We've put extra shifts out to kind of help with the call volume that we typically do see increase on the holidays," Goodman said.

Goodman said last Thanksgiving they received over 170 requests resulting in over 120 transports.

“We see an increase in things like traffic accidents," Goodman said "We do have people from out of state coming in to visit their family, travel, huge increase in traffic accidents.

The airport is another source of emergency calls with a large number of people traveling in and out of the spot.

"Charlotte's airport is huge. The volume there is very, very high," Goodman said. "We do have an uptick in calls at the airport as well that we try and mitigate.”

Regardless of the call volume, Medic maintains the community’s safety 24/7.

“Our number one priority is being where you know when and where our patients need us the most,” Goodman said.
