The quake happened at 10:52 p.m. a few miles northeast of the town of Pageland. That's near the North and South Carolina state border.

The quake's magnitude was just 2.0, which means it likely wasn't felt by anyone. It occurred about 2.6 miles underground.

Minor earthquakes do happen multiple times a the year in South Carolina, as fault lines do run throughout the state. The last major earthquake was in 1886, when a massive tremor left 60 people dead.
