CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Editor's note: WCNC Charlotte had previously identified the missing person who was found dead, but removed his name as his family had not yet been notified. Since both people have been publicly identified, WCNC Charlotte has chosen to include both of their names.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said a man who went missing last week was found dead Wednesday, more than 14 miles away from where his family said he was headed when he was last found. Officers said he was also found with a woman who was also deceased.
36-year-old Cedric Watts was last seen leaving his family's home on Villa Court in southeast Charlotte on Dec. 20. Police said he left the area by taking a Lyft rideshare. Family members confirmed to WCNC Charlotte he was supposed to be going toward Albemarle Road.
However, CMPD said Watts was found dead Wednesday afternoon near Green Needles Court, which is about 7 miles from his home and about 14 miles away from where he was originally said to be headed. Police said 31-year-old Millie May Danzy was found dead along with him.
Earlier in the day, WCNC Charlotte spoke with the Watts' mother, who said her son lives with her and that it was totally out of character for him not to check in with the family. She said he missed out on their tradition of giving Christmas Eve gifts to the family's children and his church's Christmas service, something that he has never skipped out on. She also noted that, to her knowledge, Watts hadn't experienced any major life events or stressful situations that could impact his mental health.
CMPD notes the investigation remains ongoing. However, the department said as of now, foul play does not appear to be a factor.
